GASP is a small space, and early in my curatorial process I was concerned about crowding it with this project of multiple figure compositions. But during the process of searching for and discovering these artists, their work has brought me to a different point of view. It has become my goal to pack the walls of GASP.

The work in this show deals with relationships, communication, and how we share space. As we join other people, connections become apparent, assessments and collaborations emerge for good or for evil. Shifts in consciousness develop; breath, emotion, ethical framework, identity, narrative changes as figures enter and leave the frame.

Cave paintings of dancers and hunters, documentations of war and peace, family portraits, and cautionary images of bad company run through art history. Artists have been inspired by intimacy, community, mass tragedy and wholesale rapture. Michelangelo's revelations of religious texts, Hopper's anxious knots of people, Saville's smushed together women, as well as the artists in this show are exploring spaces and contacts between people: the mistakes, the regret, and the beauty of what we do together.
