Italy is a garden, a vast territory of immense beauty and richness, a land that poses challenges and inspiration to travelers of all walks of life and provenances. It has been for artists a destination, a place one goes to complete their preparation and understanding of both the meaning and function of the diverse disciplines of Western Arts.

Italy is a sensuous place, a baroque landscape with an ornate understanding of living; voluptuous rhythms of time, location where flavors are slowly interpreted by the deep side of the tongue and the hours memorized in gorgeous settings of light and shadows on decaying walls and towering Cypresses. Malls have names such as Giotto and Da Vinci, for the artists revered there.

"Italian Dreams" is what Carrie Mae Weems chose to describe her perception of the absurdity and absorbing glamour of Italy. What relations are possible to establish a place so charged with history/darkness and beauty? She immersed herself in an intimate journey and conversation with Italy's own interpretation of itself through the medium of film; the result is a requiem to the master of Cinecitta a hearty homage to the creators and a spirited construction of self knowledge and identity when confronted with the massive and overwhelming package of art and history.
