"Radiance. Searching Light" A conversation with Kenneth Janes, Professor
of Astronomy, Boston University and artists John Powell and Amy Finkelstein.
Halstead Harris and John Powell are long time friends, while Amy
Finkelstein has admired PowellÂ’s works for many years. It is pleasure
to have the opportunity to bring their works together. Harris',
Finkelstein's and Powell's work share a common bond in their fascination
with light as well as their attempt to capture light in a variety
of forms as art language. This journey in search of luminosity
has taken them to different paths but always arriving at the question
of the immateriality of light, the ephemeral and elusive quality
of light. The three artists are engaged in investigations that
at times appear whimsical as if a child is playing in the dark
with flash lights capturing rich masses of emanecent spaces constructed
and defined by light. Their careful and close attention is required
so we could witness the delicate and almost invisible passage of
time. Been the work of massive public scale as Powell work, or
intimate scale on Finkelstein or Harris these artists' projects
translate a hypnotic rhythm of time.
