Co-curated by Helga Felleisen and Eden Reiner

July 22 - July 31 2005
Opening: July 22. 5-8pm

ephEmera examines how society influences self and, in turn, how self affects body.

Historically, society has defined the manner in which we experience our bodily existence. It has imposed thought, institutions and expectations. But how will the constructs of society today affect us? How will the body’s temporal qualities respond to an increasingly virtual world? How will we address physical change? What do traditions mean, and will they play a role? How is personal identity defined and is it of consequence?

This exhibition brings together different perspectives of our ephemeral existence through the works of Helga Felleisen and Eden Reiner. The artists explore how we attempt to grasp, manipulate, and even control our world. Their juxtaposition of natural and man-made materials underscores temporal and physical dimensions. The finely crafted sculptural installations and palladium prints relay that we are human. We adhere to age-old constructs; we follow ancient traditions. We still yearn for that bit of self.
