EVENT: January 22 2005 6-9pm
Two evenings of durational and timed performances motivated to
delight, confuse, inspire and activate awareness, the artists promise
to shift the expectations of the audience.
This new work crosses boundaries between media and materials, and
between artist and audience. This program presents the work of Marilyn
Arsem's Performance Projects class at the School of the Museum of
Fine Arts, Boston. Now in their final year, this group of advanced
students has worked extensively with Arsem, as well as faculty Mari
Novotny-Jones and Jamie McMurry. They are already active locally
and internationally, having performed at Mobius and Oni Gallery
in Boston and Evos Arts in Lowell, as well as at the Navinki International
Performance Festival in Minsk, Belarus. They helped produce Boston's
Corporeal Heat International Performance Festival in 2004. Several
are the founders of Boston's new quarterly performance series TesT,
in which they have all performed. TesT is now in its third year,
with upcoming shows at Mass. College of Art.
The Performance Area of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston encourages students to present their work beyond the classroom,
and to expand their experience of the world of performance art into
the international realm. They are expected to be pro-active in working
as artists, curators and producers, in order to create contexts
that facilitate the public's exposure to and understanding of live
art. Faculty in SMFA's Performance Area have extensive experience
nationally and internationally, presenting work in festivals, galleries,
alternative spaces, universities and museums in South America, Europe,
and Asia.
